Background: We were approached by Asaro, creator of luxury immersive experiences on superyachts, to redesign its website. It was looking for the site to better reflect its position in the luxury world and visually represent its exclusive service offering. The site is aimed primarily at captains, crew and owners of superyachts and megayachts, as well as their guests that enjoy the range of experiences and events.
Highlights: The custom CGI renders that represent Asaro’s event genres. Inspired by water drop photography, we created a striking and memorable aesthetic that embodied the spirit of each event and encapsulated the mystery and adventure weaved into all of Asaro’s offerings. The imagery also ties the theatrical nature of the events to the nautical theme of yachting.
Challenges: Working out how to best visualize Asaro’s offerings. The company operates in such a private and exclusive sector and as a result, photography and documentation of the actual experiences were very limited. This led us to create a series of computer-generated images to allude to the detailed and immersive experiences that Asaro offers.
Favorite details: The details in the site design were a true reflection of the attention to detail that goes into every Asaro experience. Every button and every interaction was carefully crafted and meticulously polished, down to the last small bubble on the renders.
Navigational structure: The website navigation and layout was inspired by the journeys and maps that are at the heart of an Asaro experience. The site features an interactive dotted line that fills up as users scroll down the page. We also built an interactive slider to unlock the experiences section that evokes a sense of discovery and playfulness.
Technical features: The CGI hero images were made in Cinema 4D and textured and rendered in Octane. We experimented with fluid particle simulation techniques, creating the bubble effect. A WebGL wave effect was then applied to the images to bring them to life and further accentuate the underwater look and feel.
Anything new: This project provided us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in numerous CGI techniques that were new to us. It was exciting to explore a CGI alternative to photography for the hero images on this project and it’s a technique we’d like to continue to develop in future projects.
