“I can tell lots of work went [into] creating these illustrations. The motion capture is impressive. Congrats!” —Baptiste Briel
Overview: Designed and developed by Linaixuan Wang and her team at Team Flow, Flow immerses guests into the world of traditional Chinese folklore through dance, light and music. Through a combination of digital installation and dance movements, the experience paints traditional Chinese folktales utilizing light and virtual engines to create an immersive experience where visitors are surrounded from all angles by the characters in the stories. As guests walk into a dark room and activate the world through interactions and physical props, the level of engagement increases as they become engrossed by Flow’s content, moving to a celebratory climax.
Comments by Linaixuan Wang:
How did you come up with the idea for Flow? “Flow has always been a spark in my mind. As a dancer for more than 21 years, I feel that dance uplifts my soul and has inspired me to pursue my career goals. Thus, I had the idea to create an art piece that involves dance. After completing my film and TV production degree, I gained a better sense for creating audiovisual content; then, the idea to create a project that involved light, shadow, color, music and dance emerged.
“As the creative director, producer, motion capture dancer, sound designer and initiator of this project, I truly cherish Flow. It has led me into so many possibilities, guided me into unknown potentials, taught me more lessons than I could ever expect, connected me with industry experts and united a loving team who have supported each other along the way.
What are Flow’s special interactive features? “The experience has three phases. In the first phase, you are led by a live host to learn the interactive techniques and movements, assisted by both visual and sound cues that convey positive feedback. In the second phase, you help the characters by using those interactions from the pre-show phase to move the story forward. In case you haven’t mastered the interactions, you can follow movements performed by one of the characters. Entering the third phase, you are solely counted on by a character who needs your assistance to solve puzzles. The interactions become familiarized and eventually owned by your practice throughout the experience, as well as the guiding visual and sound effects. As the story moves to the climax, you join in the celebration with the characters and can dance within the space freely.”
