“This image of a modified space shuttle engine being used to produce clean energy was taken in Bakersfield, California, in 2014 for an article about the large-scale flaring of natural gas in North Dakota and clean energy solutions for flaring. The engine was housed in a small, dark room, so in order to make it look clean and inviting, I lit it with bright light to open up the space and highlight the materiality of the metal.”
