In today’s increasingly technologized world, exciting developments seem to spiral off into a million directions. Such an Urban Future was explored in an exhibition by the Vienna Technical Museum and perfectly encapsulated by Vienna- and Oslo-based design consultancy Bleed. Working as a flexible signage system and an overall visual identity, Bleed’s comprehensive graphics connected the different parts of the exhibition, from urban innovations and urban energy to urban life and urban mobility.
Dotted arrows, angular squiggles and clean rectangles threaded throughout the museum’s exhibition spaces, spreading across open floors and creeping next to staircases—these generous spatial applications led visitors to explore the museum casually and playfully. Bleed’s designs led not only to the next exhibition space or the closest collection of pamphlets, but also to a future that is unfinished, open and accessible for everyone. The studio’s graphic concept freshly interpreted how urban space will develop by using a visual language straight from an urban future; the main verb, a burst of arrows, urged visitors to move forward in many new directions.
